Kenya Bead Mission Project from Colleen McMullen

Earlier in 2016 many from the United Church congregation generously supported my personal mission project to send beads for making jewelry to a group of ladies from some rural communities in Kenya.  With your kind donations, I am able to send 2 shipments of beads to the non-governmental organization (Nkoilale Community Development Organization) that supports 8 beading groups of 25 women each.  The first box with 9 bags (1 pound each) of seed beads in a rainbow of colors I sent out in March – and because of some delays (which unfortunately are not infrequent with international shipping to rural Africa) – the box was finally delivered to the women last week.  Attached are photos of the beads being received by the leaders of these women’s groups.

I still have enough money collected from your earlier donations to send off the 2nd bead shipment very soon – another 9 pound box of beads.  In the meantime wanted to share with you the sincere thanks of the NGO and these women for the impact that your generosity will have on the well-being of these communities.   One of the long-term goals that this NGO has is to establish a nice and ecologically friendly beading workshop so that these women will have a centralized place to work and share their designs.  My plan is to continue to supply beads for them – and I am so grateful for the United Church family’s support of this effort.
